MCG chief in panel to approve building plans

Building plans for plots will now be sanctioned by a new committee formed by the Urban Local Bodies department. The committee includes the chief town planner, senior town planner and MCG chief engineer among others.

However, according to a senior official from the chief town planner’s office, getting building plans passed through this committee is going to be a time consuming and tedious process. “In cases of large group housing projects or commercial projects it is understood that in-depth scrutiny is needed but getting every building plan, no matter how small, sanctioned through the committee will make it a very lengthy process,” he said.

“Even the smallest plot area of 50 square yards which needs to have building plans sanctioned will now have to go through this committee before the MCG commissioner accepts or rejects the plan. This involves a physical verification of the site by the committee and then the verification of documents as well as the usual process making it a lengthy procedure than when the joint commissioner was in charge,” said

Vikas Gupta, ULB director said, “The motive behind forming such a committee is to bring transparency in the whole process of scrutiny as several complaints have been received about how rules are not followed while passing building plans,” he said.
